چکیده
To assess organochlorine compound (OC) contamination, its possible sources, and adverse health impacts on giant pandas, we collected soil, bamboo, panda fecal samples from the habitat research center of Qinling (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis)—the rarest recognized subspecies. The polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) pesticides (OCPs) concentrations were comparatively low which suggests that moderate sources OC pollution currently. levels lower in nature reserve than those pandas held captivity, within increased between functional areas order: core, buffer experimental. distribution patterns, correlation analyses, combined with congener distributions suggested PCBs OCPs originated similar dispersed by processes, being transported through atmosphere characterized historical residues. Backward trajectory analyses results, detected DRINs (aldrin, dieldrin, endrin isodrin) both suggest long-range atmospheric transport source. pose potential cancer risk, PCB 126 was most notable toxicant as assessed be high carcinogenic risk index. We provide data for assessment can guide identification priority congeners, recommend a long-term monitoring plan. This study proposes an approach to ecotoxicological threats whereby may used sentinel species other threatened or endangered mammals. By highlighting risks long-distance transmission pollutants, emphasizes importance transboundary cooperation safeguard biodiversity.

Spatial memory recall in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
The current study tested spatial memory recall in 1 male and 1 female giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca). The task required subjects to make a delayed response to a previously lighted location, with varying lengths of delay between the observation phase and the test phase. The male subject reached criterion at 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 10-s delays. The female subject reached criterion at 2-, 3-...
متن کاملAiluropoda melanoleuca Giant Panda Endangered Geographic Range Information
The giant panda is confined to south-central China. Currently, it occurs in portions of six isolated mountain ranges (Minshan, Qinling, Qionglai, Liangshan, Daxiangling, and Xiaoxiangling) in Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan Provinces (about 75% of the population inhabits Sichuan Province). The panda's total range encompasses approximately 30,000 sq km between 102–108.3° E longitude and 28.2–34.1° N ...
متن کاملCharacterization of Haemaphysalis flava (Acari: Ixodidae) from Qingling Subspecies of Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis) in Qinling Mountains (Central China) by Morphology and Molecular Markers
Tick is one of important ectoparasites capable of causing direct damage to their hosts and also acts as vectors of relevant infectious agents. In the present study, the taxa of 10 ticks, collected from Qinling giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis) in Qinling Mountains of China in April 2010, were determined using morphology and molecular markers (nucleotide ITS2 rDNA and mitochondr...
متن کاملSerologic response to a canarypox-vectored canine distemper virus vaccine in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is known to be susceptible to natural infection with canine distemper virus (CDV). Vaccination of giant pandas with conventional modified live CDV vaccines has been avoided due to the numerous carnivore species known to have become infected with CDV after vaccination. Serum-neutralizing antibodies to CDV were measured after s.c. and i.m. annual vaccinati...
متن کاملCT examination of the manipulation system in the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca).
The manipulation mechanism of the giant panda (Ailuropida melanoleuca) was examined by means of CT (computed tomography) and 3-dimensional (3-D) Volume Rendering techniques. In the 3-D images of the giant panda hand, not only the bones but also the muscular system was visualised. Sections of the articulated skeleton were obtained. It was demonstrated that the hand of the panda is equipped with ...
